"After completing the Proofreading & Copy Editing course I set myself up as a freelance proofreader. Although other commitments prevented me from pursuing this as a full-time job, I found what I learned on the course invaluable when it came to my career as a writer.
"I have three published books behind me now and one being prepared for publication and the knowledge I gained from The Writers Bureau helped me edit and proofread them all. I am an English honours graduate but even so I discovered that my grammar was not as perfect as I had believed!
"Meanwhile, I continue as a part-time proofreader with a small band of regular clients. They are mainly Eastern European and I have helped them with assignments, CVs and job applications. I feel I am providing a genuine service to people who need and deserve it and several of them have become my friends. One Polish lady in particular—Agnieszka—became a character in my non-fiction novella Being Krystyna. I don’t know if that book would still have happened had I not met Agnieszka in my capacity as a proofreader, but I do know that, for me, writing it was a life-changing experience."
