Here is a summary of all the services we offer to help and support you with your writing development.

The Writers Bureau Blog - Free
This is updated weekly by Diana Nadin, our Director of Studies, and her guests. It’s a miscellany of useful hints and tips on writing, getting published, writers’ experiences and writing news. There are hundreds of posts going back to July 2009 which can be easily searched through by topic or date.

Association of Freelance Writers – Annual Membership £24.99
Membership gives you a card to identify you as a freelance writer; discount on Writing Magazine, WB competitions and a whole array of courses and writing services; a free online course worth £149 , a free appraisal worth £45 and a monthly Zoom Writing Lunch where members get together to write and chat about writing.

Taster Review and Appraisal - £25
Find out how well you can write with this special taster review and appraisal rate. You can now receive a professional opinion on any piece of prose up to 2000 words, or any number of poems up to 60 lines, for only £25. You can send in: articles, short stories, blogs or poems.

Review and Appraisal Service
Have your writing assessed by one or our expert tutors and receive guidance on how to make the most of your writing. We review:

  • Scripts (TV, Film or Theatre) - £165 for up to 120 pages and then £6.00 for every additional four pages.

  • Blogs - £50 for three blog posts up to 1,000 words in total plus an overview of your blog online - remember to include a link to your blog when you send your posts.

  • Children’s Picture Books - £50 up to 1,000 words.

  • General report on a novel or non-fiction book £240 up to 50,000 words and then £8 for each additional 2,000 words. Over 100,000 words contact us for a quote.

  • Short Stories - £50 for up to 4,000 words and then £6 for each additional 1,000 words up to 8,000.
  • Poems - £50 for up to 120 lines and then £3.00 per 10 lines above this.

  • Book Proposal (fiction or non-fiction) package - Synopsis and first 15,000 words - £200.

  • Children’s non-picture books (fiction or non-fiction) - £50 for the first 4,000 words and then £6 for each additional 1,000 words.


The review will include comments on style, content, suitability for the chosen market and any other aspect considered appropriate. You will receive a thorough, straightforward and honest opinion from an experienced tutor – just like you would as one of our students.

Writers Bureau Writing Competitions
We run three writing competitions a year with varying prizes and entry fees.

January – April: 2000-word Short Story Competition

May – July: Limerick or Poetry Competition

August – November: 500-word Flash Fiction Competition

Creative Writing Distance Learning Courses £220 - £444
Most of our distance learning courses are suitable for beginners. These courses help to develop your style and technique, give you an understanding of the publishing world, show you how to get your work published and paid for, as well as building your confidence. You receive online and hard copy course materials and personal feedback from a professional writer on your written assignments. These courses are a great option if you want to explore a new area of writing or have never written before.

Proofreading and Copy Editing Distance Learning Course £374
This course will help you to proofread your own and other people’s work to a professional level. Proofreading and copy editing can be another income stream for writers and this course will show you how to find clients and set up your own proofreading business.

Writers’ One-to-One - £3000
This personal mentoring programme is for the more experienced writer who wants to take their writing to the next level. You work closely, and intensively, with a professional writer who has a proven track record in the genre you want to work in. You work on your own project, set the agenda and the timetable within a 6 to 9 month period. Your mentor will help you achieve your goals and bring the best out of your writing.
