Ernest Metcalfe – Founder and Principal of The Writers Bureau
Ernest has been in distance education for over 40 years. In the late 80s he recognised the need for a practical writing course that would help people through their writing apprenticeship. His vision was to create a course that anyone – regardless of age or educational background – could benefit from. In January 1989 The Writers Bureau opened its doors and quickly became popular with those seeking to learn the secrets of success in the publishing world.
Diana Nadin – Director of Studies of The Writers Bureau
Diana has been constructing, writing and editing home-study courses for the last 25 years and is one of the country's leading experts in this field. She has also edited Write Lines a news letter for business students and is currently the Consultant Editor for Freelance Market News.
Sara Mace – Writers Bureau Tutor and Journalist
Sara has been a journalist since 1972 and has had countless articles published at local, regional and national level as both a full-time member of staff and on a freelance basis. Her experience is largely newspaper based and includes editing, sub-editing, page design, feature writing, news reporting and training new recruits. She has specialised in various fields, such as industrial, agricultural and legal news coverage, but her main interest is the arts and she spent several years as Arts Editor of a regional daily paper.
“I began my first Writers Bureau course (Comprehensive Creative Writing) in 2007. Having more than covered the course fees from published pieces I have never looked back. Initially my ambitions were to get going. I knew I wanted to be a writer, I just didn’t know how to go about it, or, if I’m honest, quite what I wanted to write. Since, I have gradually blended a teaching career with writing, first with articles and short stories, then increasing the writing commitment dramatically when I secured an agent in 2016 to ghostwrite a series of memoirs. This year I have undertaken The Art of Writing Poetry course to really hone my skills in what I now realise is a genre I love - and have already had my first poems published.” Theresa Gooda - Writers Bureau Student of the Year 2021 |
