Hello All,

In 1934, writer Dorothy L Sawyers said:

“Death seems to provide the minds of the Anglo-Saxon race with a greater fund of innocent enjoyment than any other single subject.”

Not much has changed then, as crime novels are as popular as ever. It seems we love to read about the misfortunes of other people and murder is our favourite topic. So, if you fancy having a go, here are some useful websites:

The Crime Writers Association – a great place to start! There are all kinds of resources you can browse through, as well as great competitions to enter.

Theakston’s Old Peculiar Crime Writing Festival – it might be a good idea to get yourself to this festival if you can. It’s not until July next year, so you’ll have plenty of time to save up and organise yourself. It’ll give you a good idea of what crime writing is all about. Plus, some of the best crime writers around will be speaking about their craft, a great way to pick up tips!

The Telegraph Harvill Secker Crime Writing Competition – why not have a go at this competition? There’s £5000 and a book contract on offer, not to mention a whole heap of kudos!

And finally, here’s a handy article for you:

Tips on Writing a Crime Novel

Remember, if you run a website that you think may be of use to our readers, let us know. If we like it, we’ll publish a link to it giving you a free plug. What could be better than that?
