That’s The Way To Do It!

June 8th, 2015

R.Belligerence-BlogOur kids dragged us to the Manchester Film and Comic Con last weekend. Well, I say dragged … I was more excited than them. It was a huge event, packed with dealers, big screen TVs, an auditorium for talks, and rows of desks where celeb’s were signing graphic novels, DVDs, original artwork, baseball caps, etc.

My ten year old son was after ‘retro’ games, and we soon found some. So while he hummed and hahed over Pokemon and Donkey Kong I had a look round. I noticed one particular table which was quite simple (by comic con standards.) On a plain black cloth, it held just a few piles of books, all copies of four paperbacks that were neatly laid out on display – all clearly part of a series. Behind the table was a woman in a striking outfit – part Tolkien’s Rivendell, part Mos Eisley spaceport.

“Are you the author?” I said.

“Yes,” she said

And that’s how I came to meet the inspirational C. G. Hatton. Read the rest of this entry »

Ten Top Tips for Managing Your Website

March 9th, 2015

website-blogBack in August I wrote a blog called Every Writer Should Have One.com about building your own website. I linked from it to Wix, Yola, Webs and Moonfruit – four online companies who help put sites together. I also talked about my own experience, building a site with Wix – Phil Busby Acoustic Blues.

I know, there’s always a million other things to be getting on with. But a website is a handy thing to have … Read the rest of this entry »

How to Promote Yourself Through Social Networks

October 10th, 2014

Sneha-Tipnis_Writers-Bureau_Recent-photo-1As a freelance writer, I thought of promoting myself online i.e. through social networks like Google +, LinkedIn and my blog http://goldentipsmumbai.blogspot.in/. So, I would like to share the experience of this process with you all.

If you too are registered on these social networks, then you can surely promote yourself in the same way I did. And here’s how I’m still doing it! I share my blog posts via a link on Google + with my personal contacts like colleagues, friends etc. I also consciously share my blog posts with other writers who are in my Google + circles i.e. a network of people on Google.  Furthermore, I also email the links of these blog posts to those who aren’t active on Google +. As a result, your creative content (blog posts or articles) are viewed by people in your circles. In addition to this, you are digitally known to a plethora of people starting from colleagues, friends in general to like-minded writers, worldwide, in particular. Read the rest of this entry »

Coming out of the closet: the introvert writer

September 26th, 2014

Kathryn-Clark-author-photo-2014Is it enough to write?  Or do you want to have readers, too?

As an extreme introvert, the thought of putting my writing out there for other people to read was intensely frightening.  Fear of criticism and failure was part of this, but I also feared what success might bring.  Publishing writers take on a variety of roles: opinion giver; social media expert; public speaker; advertiser and sometimes publisher.  They seem an extrovert bunch, happily promoting their latest works and embracing social media.
