Get a Professional Opinion on Your Writing!

October 21st, 2011

First, thanks to Nick for last week’s interesting – and very useful – post on how social media can benefit you as a freelance writer.

The Booker Prize at Last!

Moving on, I’m glad that Julian Barnes has eventually won the Booker Prize on his fourth nomination. I haven’t read The Sense of an Ending yet but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed some of his other books such as Arthur and George and Flaubert’s Parrot – so if you have already read it, let me know what you think.

The Best of Berlin

I’m lucky enough to have spent last weekend in Berlin. It’s a great city to visit – wonderful architecture, some spectacular museums and easy to get around. I’d always wanted to visit the Palace of Sanssouci just outside Potsdam and wasn’t disappointed. Nor was I disappointed in the ‘kuchen’. Choclate cake that can deliver so many calories – and so much pleasure – in a single slice is not to be taken lightly (and yes, the pun was definitely intended!)

Review and Appraisal

I know that not everyone wants to study a writing course – you may not have the time or you may already have completed your magnum opus and simply need an expert opinion on it. For that reason we’ve been giving some careful thought to our Review and Appraisal service recently. We’ve expanded the scope and you can now pay online if this is easier for you. At the moment we have a 10% discount on the appraisal of poems; so it’s definitely worth having a look at the site.

Spooky Stories

If you do have time to study a course then you could win a Short Fiction course if you enter our Halloween ‘twitter’ competition. Just write a hair-raising story in less than 140 characters – and make sure it reaches us before 31st October.

And that’s it for this now. Next week children’s author, and Writers Bureau tutor, Karen King will be my guest blogger and she’ll be sharing some tips on kick-starting your writing.
