Free Prize Draw – worth over £1000!

November 26th, 2010

Taj Mahal

First thanks to Sara for last week’s blog.  I hope it’s convinced you that our tutors really care whether you succeed – in fact, they take it personally! As she pointed out, you have the best chance of selling your work if you follow a magazine’s house style, present your work well – and follow your tutor’s advice.

I’ve just got back from a trip to India.  It’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit and after plenty of arm-twisting, I persuaded my husband that he wanted to go too.  We weren’t disappointed!  But it wasn’t Delhi, or even the Taj Mahal, that will stay with me for the rest of my life – it was the frenetic street life in Jaipur, the fantastic morning and evening light in Ranthambore and, most importantly, the lovely people we met on our travels.

Indian Family

But, all good things must come to an end. So it’s back to my desk in Manchester, and the realization that the food in our local curry house isn’t quite as tasty as we thought it was.

Christmas-themed flash fiction competition

In my last post before going away I mentioned National Short Story Week, which is now in full swing.  To show our support we’re currently running a flash fiction competition to win a copy of Iain Pattison’s book ‘Cracking the Short Story Market’.  It’s a great read – humorous, practical and offering some terrific advice whether you want to write for magazines, the Internet or competitions.  All you need to do is write a Christmas-themed story in no more than 50 words.  But you must be quick as the closing date is 30th November.

Publish Your Book

Indepenpress are a company offering POD (print on demand) services to authors who wish to publish their own books.  The Writers Bureau has teamed up with them to offer a free prize draw.  You don’t have to write anything to enter – just visit our website and leave your name and address. But if you’ve written a book, it’s sitting in your drawer and you’ve no clear idea what to do next this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.  The prize includes a free copy of our latest course ‘How to Market your Book’ plus Indepenpress’ Bronze book publication package worth £795. The closing date for this is 31st January 2011; so you’ve still plenty of time.

Next week, there’ll be another of our kind Writers Bureau student bloggers standing in for me.  Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean I’ll be off on my travels again – chance would be a fine thing!
