August 20th, 2010

My front windows are now installed and look great.  The first one was relatively straightforward and completed with little mess by the end of the first day.  Day two dawned and they started on the second one full of optimism.  I was working upstairs when there was a crash and the air turned blue – and no, it wasn’t dust!  I’m usually quite nosey, but decided that in this case ignorance was bliss.  Needless to say, it took them a bit longer than originally anticipated.

I’ve just received an email from Nick Lewis at Howto.co.uk whose competition I mentioned recently.  They’ve now announced the winner of their £200 July article competition.  It’s Alan Barker with ‘How to Run an Effective Meeting’.

And talking of competitions, don’t forget the Writers Bureau’s 21st Birthday Competition for August.  It gives you the chance to win one of our Fiction Writing Courses . All you have to do is write a pitch for your book in less than 140 characters – the Tweeters amongst you should find this easy.  As I’ll be judging the competition, I want to be intrigued by your pitch. Make sure you whet my appetite and leave me feeling that I want to know more.

Finally, if you’re interested in joining a writers’ group, check out the new NAWG (National Association of Writers’ Groups) website.  There’s a Directory so that you can locate your nearest group and details of the NAWG Open Festival of Writing to be held at Collingwood College in Durham from 3rd to 5th September.  I attended the event a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it – and, as usual, the Writers Bureau will be donating a competition prize.
