Some more inspiration ideas!

September 18th, 2013

Peering into the lives of others is a fascinating pastime, especially if you are nosey like me. I love to see what’s going on in other people’s cities and one of easiest ways to do this is by checking out the live webcams available. As you are probably aware by now, there are CCTV cameras all over the place, and they are not just in city streets. You can access cams in zoos, bear dens, even people’s living rooms – yes, some people actually stream what they are doing 24 hours a day. All you have to do is decide what you want to look at. It’s a great way to gain inspiration as you never know what you’ll see!

A good place to start is Earthcam. They have a clear website with the cameras organized into categories, such as entertainment, weird and bizarre (you know that’s going to be your first stop!) and personal.

To get you started here are some of my favourites:

Times Square – always something going on here

The Foucault pendulum in the Kirchhoff Institute for Physics – I’m a physics geek!

AuroraMax – Haven’t managed to see the aurora for real yet, so this is the next best option.

And Opentopia who have several hundred cams you can choose from for all over the world.

Believe me, once you start, you’ll find it really hard to stop. But as long as you gain some kind of inspiration, even if it’s just five minutes away from what you’re writing that allows your brain to rest and re-focus – it’s worth it.
