Happy New Year!

January 1st, 2015

2015First, let me wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope it will be a healthy and prosperous one for you.

So… have you made any New Year’s resolutions? I’ve made one or two and this year I’m going to try my very best to stick to them. My trusty old ‘point and click’ camera is coming to the end of its working life and tomorrow I’m going out to buy a new one (my husband’s belated Christmas present to me – though he doesn’t know it yet!)  I’m planning to get something a bit more sophisticated and then settle down and really learn how to use it properly (that’s the resolution part) so that I can provide better photos with anything I write. I might even treat myself to a photographic course.

I know we make a point of it in our non-fiction writing courses but being able to provide photos with your articles really does boost your chances of selling your work.

Next, I’m going to get fitter (I say this every year). Fell walking is great exercise and if I get out and about more it’ll give me chance to practise with my camera.

Finally, I’m going to be more positive in 2015. In other words, tell myself that I can do anything I put my mind to… and enjoy doing it!

Whatever your own resolutions I hope you’ll keep them. Remember, if you can adopt a pattern of behaviour for six weeks (or combat a bad habit for that length of time) then you’re well on the way to making real changes in your life. So here’s to mid-February!

My guest next week is Writers Bureau tutor, Karen King. She’s just had a young adult book published and she’ll be looking at that particular genre.
