Ten Top Tips for Managing Your Website

March 9th, 2015

website-blogBack in August I wrote a blog called Every Writer Should Have One.com about building your own website. I linked from it to Wix, Yola, Webs and Moonfruit – four online companies who help put sites together. I also talked about my own experience, building a site with Wix – Phil Busby Acoustic Blues.

Well, that was over six months ago, so I wonder how you’re getting on? Is your site up and running, still under construction, or languishing on the ‘To Do’ list? No criticism if it’s the latter. I know, there’s always a million other things to be getting on with. But a website is a handy thing to have … Read the rest of this entry »

Literary Places You Fall In Love With

February 27th, 2015

laugharne_blogAs usual, thanks to Sue for last Friday’s guest blog. And, she’s absolutely right – researching markets, structuring and polishing your work and presenting it professionally are just as important, in this digital age, as they have ever been if you hope to succeed. Long Live The Book!

January 16th, 2015

Jacqueline_Jeynes_200By now I’m sure that all of you have heard of Facebook boss, Mark Zuckerberg’s New Year resolution to read more books. But he’s also launched an online book club and the first title on his reading list is The End of Power by Moises Naim. Needless to say, the book has rocketed into the Amazon bestseller list and sold out.  Had you heard of it? No, me neither. October 28th, 2014

Tower-blogHow did we ever survive without the internet? Just twenty years ago, it was a new-fangled ‘thing’ for programmers and academics. Folk like us only got to play with it occasionally. And when we did, it was stunningly unimpressive.

Now though, I lose track of the number of times I log on every day. What will the weather be like? Check online. Fancy hearing that old LP from 1987? It’s on Youtube. Want to know who acted with John Wayne in ‘Stagecoach?’ Google it. What a fantastic resource. Read the rest of this entry »

How to Promote Yourself Through Social Networks

October 10th, 2014

Sneha-Tipnis_Writers-Bureau_Recent-photo-1As a freelance writer, I thought of promoting myself online i.e. through social networks like Google +, LinkedIn and my blog http://goldentipsmumbai.blogspot.in/. So, I would like to share the experience of this process with you all.

If you too are registered on these social networks, then you can surely promote yourself in the same way I did. And here’s how I’m still doing it! I share my blog posts via a link on Google + with my personal contacts like colleagues, friends etc. I also consciously share my blog posts with other writers who are in my Google + circles i.e. a network of people on Google.  Furthermore, I also email the links of these blog posts to those who aren’t active on Google +. As a result, your creative content (blog posts or articles) are viewed by people in your circles. In addition to this, you are digitally known to a plethora of people starting from colleagues, friends in general to like-minded writers, worldwide, in particular. Read the rest of this entry »
