The Importance of Reading and Taking Effective Notes

January 9th, 2013

Last week we looked at how to plan your time when you are studying. This week we’re concentrating on how to take notes effectively.

Enrolling on a writing course is only the first step. Now you have to study the materials you receive and finding an effective way of doing this can be difficult, especially if you have been out of any formal education for a while. Read the rest of this entry »

Write a short story and win £500

January 7th, 2013

Happy New Year!  I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas – if you celebrate it – and that you’ve made plenty of New Year resolutions.  Top amongst these, I trust, is to try to make more time for your writing.  If you’re struggling to write because you have a busy schedule; or your family and friends don’t take your writing ambitions seriously and intrude on your writing time, then what you need is our Effective Time Management Creative writing course.  Not only will it explain how to organise yourself better and avoid procrastination, but it will also teach you assertiveness techniques which will help you to say ‘no’ to distractions and the demands that other people make on you. Effective Time Management for Writers

January 3rd, 2013

I’m sure you are wondering what this has to do with you. Well, quite a lot if you want to be a productive writer. We often hear people say that they don’t have the time to fit writing into their day, especially those who have other commitments to attend to, which covers pretty much every student we have! However, some people seem to be able to manage to do huge amounts of stuff in the 24 hours we are allotted each day and others well… you know what I mean.

Managing your time effectively will allow you to make space for your creative writing and identify areas where your time is being wasted.  And one of the easiest ways to start this process is to keep a time diary. It really is as simple as it sounds – you make a note of everything you spend time on – and I mean everything from how long it takes you to brush your teeth to how long it takes you to visit the loo each day. Yes, really!

Once you’ve done that, you can analyse where you time is spent effectively and where it’s wasted. Then you can implement strategies to improve the situation. But, they are too long for me to go into here so why not check out our Effective Time Management course for more help.
