Changing to fiction part of the course...

Vicky W - November 24, 2011 writes:

Hello, has anyone changed from fiction to non fiction or vice versa mid way through the course? I started the course a year and a half ago and as it was advised to start with non fiction that is what I did. Magazine articles, fillers and letters are not for me. I want to write a novel and I want to write fiction stories using my imagination. I am so terrified of running out of time having only completed 5 assignments in my time on the course. I have emailed to ask if I can change at this stage - I want to enjoy the course not see it as a chore - but I just wondered if anyone else has had the same problems or has changed at this stage? Any advice or words of wisdom would be much appreciated - I don't want to give up on my writing dream! Thank you :-)

Hi Vicky, I changed but the other way around, I started fiction years ago, quickly did 4 assignments then stopped completely. I restarted recently and got f5 but simply couldnt get going on it - so I swapped to non fiction and just looking at writing from a different angle has really helped, I have done almost 3 assignments in a few weeks. Its worth the chang, but im not sure if you have to waive the guarantee, best of luck x

Hi Vicky, I changed from non-fiction to fiction and I found it helped me a lot. I've completed four of the fiction assignments so far. It just got me started and now I think I could get on with the non-fiction part of the course much better/enthusiastically!

Sally and Helen, thank you for taking the time to help me with this! I contacted student services last Thursday and by Friday they had changed me to fiction! I am already over half way through the first fiction assignment and feeling so much better. Reading the section on writing a novel has also got my brain in gear to start thinking about my book and I have some notes ready for this also! So I am thrilled I changed and thank you both for sharing your experiences. Like you Sally it has removed me from the rut I was stuck in and who knows, I might even have time to go back to non - fiction at the end! thanks again. Vicky x
