I'm so excited because I've got my first book review quote! Edward Smith, the creative director of FeedARead.com, says, “We’re delighted to publish Slippery Souls, it’s a uniquely entertaining story from a talented new author.” I had to just tell someone :-) Rachael (www.rachaelhdixon.webs.com)Christina H - January 30, 2012 replied:
No wonder you wanted to tell someone Rachael. I would too if it were me. It is a good start to your career. You better have put a copy into your clipping folder.Ana M - February 2, 2012 replied:
Hey Rachael, Congratulations!!!! That is fantastic, and every writer's dream!! Sorry to ask a newbie question, but out of curiousity and in the hope that one day I may be in your situation, how did you even get quotes? Do you send your book around? I always wondered...Rachael D - February 2, 2012 replied:
Thanks guys :-) and yeah Ana, it's usually a case of pitching the book to reviewers...which can be hard work if it's a self-published piece (which mine is). I've published via a fantastic Arts Council funded company called Feedaread, and my review came unexpectedly from their creative director. I would urge anyone who is interested in self-publishing and who would like a physical copy of their book to check them out, it's completely free to set up with them (apart from the cost of your author copy, which is usually under £5). Then they provide a POD service for anyone else who would like to buy the book, so you don't need to fork out anything if you don't want. Your book is also realistically priced at around £6.99, and you get a decent royalty on sales. Also if your book is in the top ten at certain points throughout the year the opening chapters will be reviewed by three of the top publishing houses (including Orion)...which can only be a good thing! :-) Rachael www.rachaelhdixon.webs.comChristina H - February 2, 2012 replied:
