Has anybody any experience of using Amberely publishing? They've offered to consider my book but I'll have to buy 100 copies. Never been published before so would welcome any comments please.

Hi Geoff,

If you have been offered for self publishing, then Give up this idea or get ready to see your loss.

They'd be printing 1000 copies though?

M R - June 22, 2010 replied:

Well if it so, Why don't you ask your tutor or student service telling them all deatils of your offer. They know better, but still I dont understand why you'll have to buy 100 copies.

Hi Geoff. I would ask on the Writing Magazine forum where there are quite a few published authors who seem to know about these things. Just go to http://www.writersnews.co.uk/writers_talkback/

I think you have to register with them to ask a question but I'd say it will be worth it.

There's a website where you can check out the validity / respectability of various publishers - can't remember the URL but they will know on the forum.

Geoff, you can check out many publishers on Preditors and Editors, and don't whatever you do, part with any money. A reputable publisher will not ask you for money upfront unless they are self publishers. With self publishing, you have to do a lot of work to sell your book, and most people end up giving them away to friends and family, so lose all their money.

I've looked at Amberley's website and they do seem legit - but they don't usually publish fiction, they deal more with historical novels.

It may be that they'll print your books and you have to do all the work to market and sell them - not an easy job!

Geoff, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. pple will do anything to earn money.
