new magazine lauching in the summer

Laura P - June 18, 2010 writes:

We are launching this summer - launch with us! We are looking for short stories (no more than 2,500 words please) in the category of Chick Lit and Women's Fiction. We're happy to offer Chick Lit and Women's Fiction writers this opportunity; we think it's a great way to add another (or your first!) publication to your resume, while receiving exposure with your perfect audience. And best of all, there's no entry fee! Please submit all stories to Submissions [at] ChickLitShorties [dot] com. (Multiple stories are accepted, but please send them as separate emails. Please send all stories as part of the email, as no attachments will be opened. Submission guidelines can also be found at http://www.ChickLitShorties.com/submissions .) Of course the usual applies - please have it be original work, by submitting an entry you acknowledge that you are the author and this is your original work, and you are granting us the right to publish it on our site. Entries are considered on a rolling basis, but the sooner you submit, the greater chance you have for launch consideration. Get creative...get picked! just thought id share this i found it on www.gumtree.com

Tina B - June 27, 2010 replied:

Hmm, wonder if they will pay for this, or is it a way to get free short stories for their magazine.

I like the way they make it sound as if they are doing the writer a favour by publishing their stories!

Writing is a job the same as any other, and you should be selling stories, not giving them away.

The problem is, some editors know how much a new writer would like to see themselves published, and use this to their advantage.

Some people are happy to give their work away, but be aware, if you do, once it's been published, you cannot then sell it at a later date, so be very careful what you give away for free.
