THE WRITERS BUREAU STUDENT STORIES

I thought I’d raid the student forums for some successes this month – I think it is a great way to let others know that success is achievable and share your excitement so a big thanks to all those I’ve detailed below.

After spending a lot of time on my course and feeling deflated, I sent off three letters to mags and a 250 word blog, and all got in touch and all are being published! Feels great, just keep plodding on, believe in yourself and it can happen. I am in this week’s Woman’s Own – a 250 word blog about Celebrity mums. Good luck everyone! Mandy

To say that a travel feature I wrote is going to be used! I'm so excited. All of my other published stuff has been in the form of reader's letters - so it'll be nice to see something a little more substantial with my name next to it. Keep on at it everyone - if I can do it, then so can anybody else! (just £30 away from making back all of my course fees, hooray!)

Rachael. Let us know when you earn the last £30 Rachael and we’ll be thrilled to send out your Certificate of Competence!

I wrote an article about the X Factor and it has been published on a website so I am very happy. There really is hope out there and yes it may not sound like very much but it is a start and I am just very pleased that I have had some success already.

It may not seem like much but, always remember any success is one for your portfolio and a boost to your kudos!

Hello again folks - well, what a month November has been! You might have seen on this forum that I got my first article accepted by Prima Baby that had been previously rejected. Following that I've also heard back from Paranormal magazine that they would like to publish my second article on The Fermi paradox (why haven't we heard from anyone else in the galaxy yet). On top of that I opened my E-Zee Writer newsletter to find that they'd printed my forum post on their Successes page! Not only that but I opened my X360 magazine this morning to discover they had printed the readers letter I had written to them as part of Assignment 4! I am so over the moon to have had such success - especially since I only decided to try writing since being made redundant from my previous office job (which I'd held for 20 years). I really wouldn't have had the confidence to do this if it weren't for the Writers Bureau and the terrific guidance I've had from my tutor, Peter Cave. Now it feels like I'm well on the road to starting a new career - and one that I've always aspired to. I may not be the next J K Rowling (who'd want the publicity?) but if I can actually make this pay then I'll be a VERY happy man. So, I just wanted to say to everyone that's still waiting to be printed that it really does happen! I hope every single one of you gets to feel how great it is to finally see something you wrote in print.

Well Nigel – now you’re in print again. Loving the Fermi Paradox idea – you’ve taught me something I didn’t know in a subject area I love and that, my friends, is the beauty of writing!

Thanks, as always, to our forum posters for sharing their inspirational stories with us. If you would like a prospectus for any of our courses please email us here with your full name and postal address.
