£2000 worth of prizes to be won!

In January 1989 The Writers Bureau started to accept its first students. Since then tens of thousands of people worldwide have enrolled to see if writing is for them. Many have gone on to have work published for the first time and some now have a full or part-time writing career.

The 20th Anniversary Award is to celebrate the past two decades of The Writers Bureau helping people achieve their writing ambitions. And to do this, we're giving away £2000 worth of prizes. The main condition is that entrants have taken a course with The Writers Bureau at some point in the last 20 years. Entry is free.

The prizes are:

  • £1000 for the winner
  • £500 for second place
  • £200 for third place
  • £50 for six runners up.

The panel of judges includes:

  • Christina Jones – Award Winning Novelist and Writers Bureau Student
  • Ernest Metcalfe – Principal and founder of The Writers Bureau
  • Diana Nadin – Director of Studies
  • Sara Mace – Journalist and Writers Bureau Tutor.

Entrants are to write an article between 700 and 1400 words about how their Writers Bureau course has helped them develop as a writer and how it contributed to their writing career. The article must include their writing achievements, how writing has affected their lives, the impact (if any) on other people, and anything else they consider relevant. The quality of the writing in the article will be an important part of the selection process.

The winners will be profiled on our website and used in our promotional activities. A selection of the best entries will be posted on the web in a new student gallery. They can include a link to their own site if they wish which will provide a showcase for their work.

Please send your entries to:
